Holst meets Webb

This piece was inspired by photographs sent back to earth from the James Webb Telescope and The Planets by Gustav Holst. This is my interpretation of Space. Solar Flares, the Milky Way, Quasars, Black Holes and Stars are all represented in the piece.

“Holst meets Webb” incorporates needlepoint, laid filling stitches, and some newly configured string art stitches including a Cardioid Heart. The overall design integrates many different stitches including a selection of Jessicas, Crescents, and a variety of new and old stitch motifs. Techniques include Diaper Patterns, and Laid Fillings. This class will appeal to those students who would like to learn new skills while challenging themselves by mastering complex canvaswork stitches. The piece is further embellished with crystals, glass pearls and bugle beads and a plethora of metallic threads. Size of the stitched piece is 12″ x 12″.
