“Mardi Gras” pattern

mardigras

“Mardi Gras” started out as a sampler and took on a life of its own! I started by stitching a Smyrna border using an overdyed thread. I then filled in each section with a different stitch or technique. Stitches include Herringbone, Oriental, various types of Jessica, Mistake stitch, Amadeus, Sprats Head, Balloon, Snowflake, Waffle and Pinwheel. Techniques include Blackwork, Four-way Bargello, Diaper Patterns and Laid Fillings. The piece is further embellished with Swarovski crystals and Pearls. This is a fun piece to stitch and the student is introduced to Intermediate and Advanced stitches while exploring fun techniques. The project is stitched using Anchor #5 Perle Cotton, DMC #5 Perle Cotton, Rainbow Gallery Splendor, Neon Rays, Neon Rays +, Flair, Vineyard Silk, Fyre Werks and Kreinik #8, #12 Braid and Threadworx Overdyed #8 Braid.

The colour palette is jewel tones of Royal Blue, Turquoise, Fuchsia and Purple.

This is an Intermediate/Advanced level piece.
